Advocates, a Framingham-based nonprofit provider of services to individuals with challenges, this week announced that its Fred Gaspari Fund for Families has awarded $7,100 in grants to 15 families to help them care for a family member with an intellectual or developmental disability. Grants of up to $500 are awarded for a variety of needs related to a family member’s care. The families who received this year’s grants will use the funds in many ways, including to purchase sensory items, pay for respite care, or invest in home modifications such as converting a bedroom into a therapy room. Donations to the Gaspari Fund are accepted throughout the year. The application process for the next funding round will take place in this fall.

In the past 10 years, Advocates has received more than 700 applications and distributed $70,000 in grants to more than 200 families through the fund. To be eligible, applicants must reside in one of the following communities: Acton, Ashland, Bellingham, Concord, Dover, Framingham, Franklin, Holliston, Hopedale, Hopkinton, Hudson, Lexington, Lincoln, Marlborough, Maynard, Medfield, Medway, Mendon, Milford, Millis, Natick, Needham, Newton, Northborough, Sherborn, Southborough, Stow, Sudbury, Upton, Waltham, Wayland, Wellesley, Westborough or Weston.
